Gadgets Galore! (Part 1)

Hi everybody,

Over the last few days we've launched 2 brand new gadgets to the gallery. This brings our total to 3 (with Windows Live Messenger last week) and we're really excited with the progress we've been making.

AccuWeather

This gadget will display on your device the weather for any location in the world! We partnered with AccuWeather to ensure that we can get the best available weather data and are really pleased with the results.

You can:

  • Use the Control Panel to add cities to watch
  • View basic current conditions on the glance screen
  • View Tonight/Tomorrow/5-day full forecasts
  • Open your PC web browser from the gadget to the forecast for your cities
  • Change between Celcius and Fahrenheit

This gadget is available now and as usual, this gadget is supplied in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese and Korean!

By default the gadget will apply the most appropriate language for your locale (e.g. if you're running a German copy of Vista the gadget will run in German) but I will be following up with a future post on how you can switch your installation into a different language.

Stay tuned for more info on the System Health gadget.

Hello,

I yesterday (July 2nd 2008)downloaded "AccuWeather" from Microsoft website and wanted to use it with my Memento 70. Don't know how to get exact version out of the program. Nevertheless my hometown is not in, or i think it is mis-spelled:

My hometown is Fuerstenfeldbruck. But is has only Fuerstenfeldburg. Even Google Earth is suggesting "Fuerstenfeldbruck" when entering "Fuerstenfeldburg"...

BTW: Do you know some windows tool, where i can send own written pages to the picture frame ? I think it should be not too complicated to send the page via UDP to port 1900, but i haven't found such a prpgram yet.

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your comment.
I did a little investigating and found that the gadget was able to find "Furstenfeldbruck" which is a slight change of spelling to "Fuerstenfeldbruck". I will raise this issue with our data provider.

Regarding Momento, the only way to send pages to the frame would be to use SideShow. However, Momento only supports 2 lines of Glance text (which is displayed at the bottom) so you may be limited as to what data you can send.
Any SideShow gadget should work with the photo frame.

Crashes when i search for calgary other cities seem to work though...

Could you please remove the degree symbol for the Momento devices? It shows up as 2 ? (question marks), and really is not needed.

(so like this)
(82??F) when (82F) is suffient.

Hi - I just wanted to reiterate Bald's comment. The degree symbol shows up at two question marks on my Momento 70 (4??C). Could you remove ?

Also, as a suggestion for any future release: Could you put the 5 day forecast on the top two lines so that it would display on my device ?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

In order to remove the question marks, use a hex editor to replace offsets 92808, 92809, 92876, and 92877 with spaces (0x20).

James,

Accuweather gadget quit working. Now says "No Data Available".

Can't change cities now either.

Repair and reinstall don't help.
